Mysterious Portal #6
When Lara Croft was 9 years old, she and her mother flew on a plane that crashed in the Himalayas. They were the only survivors and soon found refuge in the ruins of an ancient temple, not far from which Lara found an elevated platform with a sword in stone. Having accidentally activated this ancient artifact, Lara watched as her mother, trying to protect her, disappeared into the portal that opened right in front of her eyes. Not far from this platform, Lara left her diary with drawings and instructions on how to open the portal again...
Years later, following the drawings in her childhood diary that Lara found when she visited Bolivia for the first time, she reopens the portal and inserts her sword into the opening of the platform. She sees what is happening to her mother before she draws her sword. A portal is something like a mirror that spans space and time.
